Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, 2018, will also be celebrated as “Ohio Loves Transit Day” across the state with free rides on all fixed routes at participating transit agencies. BCRTA will be offering free rides on all U & R routes and Middletown Transit will also offer free rides on all the MTS color lines.
The purpose of Ohio Loves Transit Day is to celebrate public transit and how it helps to move Ohio forward.
Over 3 million Ohioans rely on public transportation every weekday—primarily for work trips—as they take advantage of safe, affordable transportation services. Public Transit allows mobility independence for veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, commuters, and students.
Ohio’s 61 transit systems provide a vital link to thousands of people with disabilities and their family members. Both urban and rural systems help ensure that persons with disabilities may remain actively involved in their communities by providing rides to work, job training programs, medical appointments, and adult day care facilities.
Employers rely on public transit as it provides safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to job sites to ensure that thousands of individuals have access to work. While every dollar invested in public transit generates four dollars in Ohio’s economy, transit also makes it easier for consumers to visit malls, plazas, and other shopping venues.
